Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has referred to as for the empowerment of the media and journalists within the nation.

Saraki made the decision in commemoration of World Press Freedom Day on Monday.

He mentioned journalist have to be empowered to inform highly effective tales that can assist general collective growth; hold leaders and establishments accountable, foster peace and unity and encourage a way of patriotic responsibility amongst the citizenry.

”The media are vital stakeholders within the Nigerian mission. Throughout our colonial rule, the press led the combat for our independence. Throughout our army rule, the media led the combat to return to democracy. Throughout our army rule, the media led the combat to return to democracy.

”Now, as we work to construct our nation’s democracy, the press has been the foremost instrument for combating for fairness, justice, unity and the event of Nigeria.

”For this reason, as we commemorate WorldPressFreedomDay in the present day, I be part of leaders internationally to acknowledge the ability of “Data as a Public Good.”

”As we observe today, it’s my hope that we’ll proceed to strengthen the media, which is the fourth property of the realm in our democracy.”
