A woman who was assaulted in Osun by policemen throughout lockdown awarded N5m an Osogbo Excessive Courtroom has awarded N5m damages towards the Nigeria Police Power and the Inspector Common of Police over the assault of a girl, Tola Azeez, in Osun State.
In 2020, a video of policemen assaulting the younger woman went viral throughout the COVID-19 lockdown interval.
Tola was strolling together with Odo Ori Market in Iwo, to purchase a drug for a relative when the officers who have been imposing the lockdown, descended on her, flogging her.
The Osun state police command recognized and arrested the erring officers, Ikuesan Taiwo and Abass Ibrahim, an inspector and a corporal respectively.
To protest the assault, a basic human rights enforcement go well with was filed by a lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, on behalf of Ms. Azeez.
The presiding decision, Justice Ayo Emmanuel, resolved the matter in favor of the applicant.
He held that the actions of the offending officers within the discharge of their official duties as brokers of the legislation amounted to an infringement of the Elementary Proper to Dignity of Ms. Azeez, a legal responsibility the Nigeria Police Power should shoulder.
He then awarded the sum of 5 million nairas as aggravated and basic damages towards the police.
The affected woman additionally took to her Twitter deal to react to the judgment.
