Tension in Taraba as Emir gives herders 30-day ultimatum to vacate forests




There was palpable concern in some elements of Taraba State as Emir of Muri Empire, Abbas Tafida, issued a 30-day ultimatum to herdsmen within the state to vacate the forest.

The Emir, who gave the ultimatum on Tuesday after Eid prayers, acknowledged that the headers have been terrorizing residents of the state.

He lamented that the herders who have been acquired into the state, are actually kidnapping, killing and raping his topics.

“Our Fulani herdsmen within the forests, you got here into this state and we accepted you, why then will you be coming to cities and villages to kidnap residents, even as much as the extent of raping our ladies?

“Due to this endless menace, each Fulani herdsman on this state has been given 30 days ultimatum to vacate the forests.

“We’re bored with having sleepless nights and the starvation alone within the land is gigantic and we is not going to permit it to proceed,” the Emir stated.

Residents of the state are predominantly farmers who’ve clashed with herders a number of occasions over destruction of crops.
