Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigns amid mass protests due to economic crisis

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned following mass protests over the federal government’s dealing with of the financial disaster.
The nation has been on curfew for days after Rajapksa supporters clashed with anti-government protesters in Colombo resulting in the damage of no less than 78 individuals .
The protests has been over hovering meals and items costs and energy cuts since April. The island nation is going through its worst financial disaster since gaining independence from Britain in 1948.
On Monday, Could 9, Rajapaksa, 76, despatched his resignation letter to his youthful brother President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, his spokesman has mentioned in a press launch.
