Police arrest suspected kidnapper in Nasarawa



A suspected kidnapper has been arrested over the kidnapping of a herdsman within the Awe Native Authorities Space of the state, who was launched after a ransom of N10m was paid. 


Ibrahim Hassan who is alleged to be the chief of a kidnapping syndicate, reportedly kidnapped 23-year-old Abubakar Babiri at his Ruga whereas he was grazing his cattle.


Upon being arrested, the 42-year-old suspect confessed to the crime. The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Ramhan Nansel mentioned;


“The Police obtained info that one Abubakar Babiri, a 23-year-old herdsman of Jangwa village in Awe LGA of the state was kidnapped at his Ruga by unknown armed males. He and his household had been made to pay the sum of N10 million as ransom earlier than he was launched.

“Upon receipt of the knowledge, the command’s anti-kidnapping unit was deployed to hold out an intensive investigation into the matter and arrest the perpetrators of the act.

“Consequently, whereas appearing on credible intelligence, the gang chief of the kidnapping syndicate, Ibrahim Hassan (AKA Bature), a 42-year-old man was arrested, and upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the fee of the offence.

“He additional said that he took N5 million as his share of the ransom collected and shared the remainder to his boys who’re presently at massive and efforts are being made to arrest them.”


The Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi has directed that the case be totally investigated on the State Prison Investigation Division in Lafia.
