Nigerian State Records Earth Tremor Measuring 2.6 On Richter Scale




An earth tremor of low magnitude measuring 2.6 on Richter Scale has reportedly occurred in South-West on Saturday.


That is gathered from a report by the Obafemi Awolowo College, Ile-Ife.

A tremor is a comparatively small or short-lived motion of the earth’s floor attributable to the identical forces that produce earthquakes of low or reasonable depth.

A professor of geophysics at Obafemi Awolowo College, Ile-Ife, Adekunle Abraham Adepelumi in a signed assertion stated the estimated epicentral distance of the tremor was between 108 and 113 km away from the measuring station on the Obafemi Awolowo College, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.

His evaluation confirmed that the epicentre was someplace alongside the NW-SE course of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria roughly positioned near Omu-Aran in North-Central Kwara State.

“A traditional fault mechanism alongside the Ifewara-Zungeru Transcurrent Fault system attributable to intra-plate seismicity was deduced. This implies that this fault system continues to be lively,” he stated.
