Igbifa was reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday morning by unknown gunmen in Rivers State whereas heading to the airport for a visit to Abuja.

Igbifa confirmed that he was kidnapped, saying the gunmen that took him away needed him to name off the continuing protest in opposition to the failures of the Federal Authorities to inaugurate a substantive board of the Niger Delta Improvement Fee (NDDC).
