Police cells and correction centres in Cross River State are reportedly congested as suspects aren’t being launched on bail by the order of courts.

Talking with DAILY POST, Ntufam MBA Ekpezu Ukweni, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) lamented the non granting of economic autonomy to the judiciary, saying he was in help of the strike.

“I do know that a few of the instances have been billed for judgment and date fell inside this hanging interval, invariably it has prolonged the evil days of some litigants and introduced disappointment to some litigants who would have carried out the execution of their judgments inside this hanging interval.

“Additionally Police cells and prisons are already congested and human rights and freedom badly infringed upon.

Ntufam accused state governors of being answerable for the strike.

“The Governors aren’t doing effectively by failing to grant autonomy to the judiciary.

“The cash meant for the chief arm is sufficient for them to work with and run the states conveniently and loot the leftover as typical. Buhari had since 2020 made govt order 10, I don’t assume the implementation needs to be an issue.

“He ought to direct the minister of finance and the accountant common of the federation to credit score the account of the judiciary with cash meant for it in all of the States judiciary account.

“If the governors are aggrieved let then proceed to court docket towards Mr president. I assumed that the governors can be keen to place down their names within the golden pen by instantly permitting autonomy because the majority of them are already doing their second time period and they’ll don’t have anything to lose so far as I’m involved.

“Let the judiciary be resolute this time if the judiciary autonomy isn’t achieved now, they need to overlook it.

“Judiciary autonomy is a constitutional matter there isn’t any room for bargaining besides the structure is amended to that impact, which I do know isn’t attainable as a result of the proponents of judiciary autonomy are over 98% on this nation.

“Though the strike is affecting attorneys and litigants, let or not it’s offered they obtain the judiciary autonomy I’m OK” Ntufam Ukweni reiterated
