Insecurity in Southeast: Governors, FG officials may be responsible not IPOB – HURIWA alleges



The Human Rights Writers Affiliation of Nigeria, HURIWA, has stated some governors and Federal Authorities’s officers could also be accountable for the insecurity throughout the Southeast.

HURIWA alleged that governors and Federal Authorities officers behind the killings try to undermine the agitation of the Indigenous Folks of Biafra, IPOB, within the Southeast.

The rights group made the comment whereas urging the Nigerian Military to respect human rights within the Southeast.

HURIWA requested the Nigerian Military to analyze the killings within the Southeast as a result of some officers of the Federal Authorities could also be accountable for insecurity within the Southeast.

In an announcement by its Nationwide Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA stated the Nigerian Military should work with the mindset that members of IPOB might not be accountable for the killings within the Southeast.

HURIWA stated: “Following report that the Nigerian Military has launched a number of navy workout routines masking the South East area of Nigeria geared toward checking the extreme circumstances of assaults focusing on strategic nationwide safety establishments/personnel and the killing of civilians by unknown gunmen, the navy excessive command ought to abide by guidelines of engagement, respect for Human Rights of civilians and adherence to the ideas of the rule of regulation.


“The Nigerian Military shouldn’t work underneath a bandwagon conspiratorial plots that the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra perform the assaults and killings however the Military have to be open-minded, look inwards and examine the likelihood that these assaults could have been masterminded by federal authorities officers and a few governors of the South East of Nigeria who could need to undermine the general public acceptance and recognition of the agitation for self-determination as canvassed by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra.

“Previously few months, many harmless Igbo youths have been killed, arrested, incarcerated and tortured by the safety forces underneath the guise that each one Igbo youths are members of IPOB.”

IPOB, nonetheless, identified that each one its members and the Japanese Safety Community, ESN, must be protected.
