I begged Niger Republic to allow Nigeria construct railway – Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, has disclosed that he begged the federal government of Niger Republic to permit Nigeria assemble the $1.95 billion railway from Kano State into Maradi.

Nigeria plans to assemble a railway line that might begin from Kano to Dutse-Katsina by way of Jibia and finish in Maradi, Niger Republic.

Nevertheless, Amaechi stated he personally travelled to Niger Republic to make sure the federal government allowed the railway venture’s building.

Talking on Channels Tv, the Minister disclosed that Nigeria would foot the invoice for the development of the venture.

The Minister lamented that some critics suppose that he was serving a Northern curiosity.

Amaechi stated: “The worst is that they may say I’m serving the curiosity of the North. Let’s assume that’s the argument you’ll make.

“The worst I can do is cease at Jibia which is the border.

“To even get to Maradi, I needed to journey to Niger Republic to even beg them.

“They aren’t bringing their cash. It’s our cash. However I’m begging them to permit me entry into Maradi.”
