FG retirees owed pensions since March 2020 – PenCom




Federal Authorities staff who retired from March 2020 to March 2021 haven’t been paid their pensions.


The Director-Normal, Nationwide Pension Fee, Aisha Umar, revealed this whereas making a presentation on the oversight go to of the Senate Committee on Institution and Public Companies to the fee in Abuja on Sunday.

“It’s unhappy to report that we’ve got right this moment, a lot of Federal Authorities workers who retired from March 2020 to March 2021 below the Contributory Pension Scheme which are but to obtain pensions as a consequence of non-payment of their accrued pension rights,” she stated.

In keeping with her, the problem to pay retirees began in 2014 and was instigated by the appropriation of inadequate quantities.

“This problem, which began in 2014, was triggered by the appropriation of inadequate quantities for cost of accrued pension rights of federal authorities retirees and additional aggravated by late or non-release of full appropriated quantities,” she added.

She additionally highlighted the challenges to incorporate the FGN’s non-compliance with the brand new minimal statutory charge of pension contribution of 18 per cent since 2014; non-payment of permitted 15 per cent and 33 per cent pension will increase to pensioners below the CPS.

Others are non-payment of shortfall for cost of full retirement advantages of retired heads of service and everlasting secretaries; and non-payment of FGN pension safety levy.

“These have created unhappy and adverse impression on the total realisation of the aims of the CPS in Nigeria,” the PenCom DG stated.
