Enugu govt suspends Amechi Awkunanaw traditional ruler

The Enugu State authorities has withdrawn the Certificates of Recognition of Igwe Anthony Ogbodo Okorie because the Conventional Ruler of Amechi Awkunanaw Autonomous Group in Enugu South Native Authorities Space of the state, over the unlucky breakdown of legislation and order locally.

In a press release by the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Issues, Dr. Charles O. C. Egumgbe, the state authorities condemned the persistent disaster pervading Amechi Awkunanaw Group, and expressed dismay that “makes an attempt at bringing peace to the group have been stone-walled”.

Dr. Egumgbe informed suspended Igwe Okorie that legislation and order have indisputably damaged down in his group resulting in accidents to individuals and property, stressing that “the scenario if not checked might exacerbate the current safety challenges in our land”.

The Commissioner identified that the actions and inactions of Okorie within the disaster had been inconsistent with part 15 (d), (e), (f), (g), (h), (i) and (j) of the Conventional Rulers Legislation Cap 141, Revised Legal guidelines of Enugu State 2004.

“In consequence due to this fact, and pursuant to part 10 (a) and (b) of the Conventional Rulers Legal guidelines, Cap 141, Revised Legal guidelines of Enugu State 2004, the Authorities of Enugu State has suspended your recognition because the Igwe and Conventional Ruler of Amechi Awkunanaw Autonomous Group, Enugu South Native Authorities Space of Enugu State this Tuesday, October 5, 2021”, Dr. Egumgbe mentioned, including: “Take discover that your suspension shall subsist pending the conclusion of investigations and aftermath”.
