Commuters threaten to block Ibadan-Abeokuta Road over alleged abandonment

A whole lot of commuters plying Ibadan-Abeokuta highway have threatened to dam the highway over alleged abandonment of the highway.

They famous that they may make the highway impassable till President Muhammadu Buhari makes funds obtainable to finish the deserted rehabilitation works on the highway.

The aggrieved highway customers famous that they have been shedding thousands and thousands of naira as a result of hardship they face every day on the highway.

A few of these plying the included residents of Omi-Adio, Orile and Kila in Ido native authorities space in Oyo State.

Others are residents of Odeda Native Governments space in Ogun states.

The involved residents who spoke by their spokesperson, Pa Fasanmi Coker expressed disappointment over the standing of the highway.

He maintained that it was unlucky that the federal authorities has “did not dualise the busy Ibadan- Abeokuta Expressway.

He then urged the “federal authorities to start the dualisation to test the excessive fee of accidents on the freeway.

He stated the “Ibadan-Abeokuta Expressway, being one of many oldest within the nation, is overdue for dualisation”.

The aggrieved residents who expressed disappointment over authorities’s dealing with of the highway stated that the federal government short-changed the general public.

The Federal Controller of Works in Oyo state, Engineer. Kayode Ibrahim, when contacted, appealed to the general public to bear with the federal government.

He famous that the contractor dealing with the mission is being owed by the federal government.

Ibrahim stated, “Sure, the contractor, Kopek Development Firm, usually carries out restore works on the highway. We usually requested them to do this as a result of the highway is getting out of hand.

“The problem is that the contractor has been owed some huge cash for a really very long time, and the federal government is working around the clock to clear all their money owed. And as quickly because the money owed are cleared, we’ll ask them to return to the positioning”.

Managing Director of the contractor dealing with the mission, Kopek Development Firm, Mr F. Issam urged the general public to not attribute accidents on the highway to structural design of the highway.

Issam who spoke by the positioning Engineer, Mr Paul Chamun urged the general public to not attribute the accidents on the highway to structural design.

He stated that engineering design and parts of the freeway don’t have anything to do with the accidents on the freeway.
