Buhari appoints Yusuf Ahmed as Nigeria Atomic Energy chief



President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Yusuf Ahmed because the Chief Government Officer of Nigeria Atomic Vitality Fee (NAEC).

The designation, for an preliminary interval of three years, took impact from September 3, 2021.

Bassey, in a press release, mentioned the President relied on the supply of part 4 (1) of the NAEC institution Act of 1976.


NAEC has the mandate to assemble and preserve nuclear installations to generate electrical energy, undertake analysis, educate and prepare on atomic vitality and radioactive substances.

Till now, Ahmed, a Professor of Nuclear Physics, was the performing chairman of NAEC established in 1976.

The CEO’s profession in nuclear science and know-how began in 2000 at Ahmadu Bello College (ABU) Zaria when he joined the Nigeria Analysis Reactor-1 (NIRR-1) crew on the Centre for Vitality Analysis and Coaching (CERT).

Between 2015 and 2019, Ahmed turned a Director and Head of Laboratories at CERT. He has served in nationwide and worldwide committees on nuclear security and safety.
