President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that Twitter ban must be conditionally lifted.

Buhari introduced this in his nationwide broadcast to Nigerians on Friday, October 1, Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary. 



The federal government had positioned a ban on the operations of the micro running a blog web site, Twitter, in Nigeria in June.

In line with Buhari, some social media customers had been liable for the ban by misusing the platform to propagate pretend information and promote non secular and ethnic sentiments. 

He mentioned, “Social media is a really helpful platform that has enabled tens of millions of Nigerians to attach with family members, promote their companies, socialise, and entry information and different data.

“Following the suspension of Twitter operations, Twitter Inc. reached out to the Federal Authorities of Nigeria to resolve the deadlock. Subsequently, I constituted a Presidential Committee to have interaction Twitter to discover the potential for resolving the difficulty.

“The Committee, together with its Technical Staff, has engaged with Twitter and have addressed various key points. These are Nationwide Safety and Cohesion; Registration, Bodily presence and Illustration; Truthful Taxation; Dispute Decision; and Native Content material.
